Group Swim Lessons
The Ott YMCA provides instructional swimming programs for all ages, ability, levels and interests. These programs lay a foundation and instill guidelines for a lifetime of safe, healthy participants in any aquatic environment.
Children 3-5 years of age may take a Pike, Eel, Ray or Starfish class based on the following:
Pikes are children that have never had a lesson and are unfamiliar with an aquatic environment.
Eels are non-swimmers but are comfortable in the water with supervision.
Rays are able to paddle around with little or no assistance but may or may not know the fundamentals of swimming strokes.
Starfish can perform a rudimentary crawl stroke with basic breathing techniques and jump into deep water.
Children 6-12 years of age may take a Polliwog, Guppy, Minnow or Fish class based on the following:
Polliwog are children who are non-swimmers and unfamiliar with an aquatic surrounding.
Guppy is comfortable in the water, but would like to learn the fundamentals of the basic strokes skills.
Minnows are able to perform rudimentary crawl stroke and is able to dive.
Fish builds on the most advanced level and prepares the swimmer for competitive swimming.
We also offer Parent/Child classes for ages 6 months to 36 months. A parent must be present and participate in all Parent/Child classes.
Registration deadlines for group lessons will be the Wednesday before lessons are scheduled to start for Saturday lessons, and the Thursday before lessons are scheduled to start for Monday & Wednesday classes.
