"I already pay membership fees-why does the YMCA need more money?"

• Membership fees cover the cost of maintaining and operating facilities for YMCA members.  Donations develop new YMCA programs and provide financial assistance for youth and families who cannot afford the YMCA, but can benefit from our programs and services.
  

"Doesn't the YMCA receive funds from the United Way?"

• Yes, but the funding is directed exclusively to YMCA after school childcare programs and only provides a small portion (less than 1%) of our overall budget.
  

"Does the money raised in the Changing Lives Campaign stay at our branch?"

• Yes, all donations received through the branch campaign remain in the branch. Some donations also come to your branch from the Metro campaign and from donors who support citywide or specific programs and/or specific branches.
  

"How much of my gift is used for scholarships and program development?" 

• All funds raised through YMCA's annual Changing Lives Campaign are used for this purpose.  YMCA uses fee revenues to pay for staffing and other administrative costs. 
  

"Who are contributors to the YMCA?"

• By far, Individuals like you give the majority (around 80%) of YMCA contributions.  Business, foundations and civic groups make up the remaining portion.
  

"Do contributors receive any Y membership privileges?"

• No, by law contributors to the YMCA can receive no direct privileges because of their charitable contribution.
  

"Are gifts to the YMCA tax deductible?"

• Yes, charitable gifts to the YMCA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of Federal and State tax laws.

"How are YMCA's governed?"

• All YMCAs are governed by committed and active volunteers and managed by trained, competent and professional staff.
