What is Healthy Kid's Day

Healthy Kids Day is a fun, activity-filled festival that is FREE to the community, celebrating the day’s key call to action, “Put Play in Your Day.”

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is designed to promote healthy kids and families in spirit, mind and body. YMCA Healthy Kids Day celebrates making fitness fun, and introduces parents and kids to an array of YMCA programs and tools that teach healthy behaviors and healthy ways to play-an essential lesson in learning how to take care of themselves throughout their lifetimes.

YMCA Healthy Kids Day is part of YMCA Activate America; a national long-term initiative focused on developing and implementing community-based solution to help all American improve their health and wellness.  According to the American Obesity Association, more than 9 million U.S. youth are overweight and obese – more than tripling since 1980.

Serving over 20 million members, including nine million youth under the age of 18, no other organization is better positioned to engage kids and families in fun and healthy physical activities than America’s YMCAs.

The Lohse and Jacobs YMCA's serve approximately 7000 members, including more than 1,000 youth. The Lohse YMCA also offers financial assistance to those in need, upholding the philosophy that “no child will be turned away due to an inability to pay a program fee” as long as the YMCA has the resources available to distribute. In 2008, the Lohse YMCA provided close to $80,000 in scholarships to children and families for memberships, summer camp, youth sports programs, and more.
